Botanical Resin with Elle-Rose Dunn

Come and join Botanical artist, Elle-Rose Dunn for this one-off Botanical Resin workshop at the Midland Junction Arts Centre. Elle-Rose will share with you her love of using botanicals as a medium to create resin masterpieces. Students will create artworks using leaves, petals, seeds and transparent paper whilst learning the principals of working with resin and silicon moulds. This course is ideal for beginners, or those with little to no resin art experience.

What’s included:

  • High quality pressed flowers, petals, foraged foliage and leaves.

  • Reusable Silicon Mould

  • Resin pouring equipment; resin, stirring sticks, beakers, gloves, cleaning equipment.

  • Tea, coffee, a light lunch with glass of wine

Wheel Throwing with Lee Woodcock

Local ceramicist Lee Woodcock will lead you through this 6 week course designed for beginners and intermediate potters to develop the skills required to confidently use a pottery wheel and create functional vessels. Over the course of the three hour sessions you will learn throwing techniques, applying handles, glazing and adorning your small vessels.

Clay, tools and firing costs are all included. Only eight spots are available, be sure to secure your place. One left-handed wheel available. Please wear enclosed shoes and bring an apron.

What on Earth Open Day

To celebrate the cross-community project What On Earth, come and be a part of an action-packed open day full of fun botanical themed activities the whole family will enjoy.

Midland Junction Arts Centre will be abuzz with live music and art activities for people of all ages to drop in, have a go and soak up the community atmosphere.

Watch creators transform the materials taken from the earth into something magical and explore the beauty, diversity and fragility of West Australian flora in a range of artistic exhibitions and activities. Budding artists are invited to book in for a workshop or simply come along on the day and have a go.

Native Flower Watercolour Painting

Paint plants, seeds, pods and flowers with local artist Sarah Thornton Smith. Sarah will show you how to draw, mix and apply watercolour paint in this free drop-in workshop. You'll have the opportunity to paint your own A6 artwork which will be pinned up on display with the rest of the community's interpretations.

This historic method of relief printing dates back to the 1400’s and was used to print newspaper, books and other media until the advent of offset printing. Workshops will employ a range of hand building techniques and white and terracotta clay high fired in an electric kiln. The finished products will be a creamy white and a warm orange/brown.

Participants are invited to return their works by Friday 30 August to exhibit in the community exhibition Seeds, Pods and Pollen at Mundaring Arts Centre from 13 Sep - 27 Oct.
